Well Drilling

We started drilling for water in mid-August.  While we started hitting small amounts of water around 600 feet down, the amount really wasn't satisfying.  We were prepared to drill to 1300 feet, but, unfortunately, hit a "crack" at 1140 feet.  This is bad for 2 reasons - it lets any water out, and the drill rig can't go deeper, since it has lost air pressure for pushing out the cuttings.  We have been working on some fixes to plug the crack.  As of November, we still aren't done ... stay tuned.

Getting ready to drill the first 20 feet

Preparing the main drill bit

The BIG drill bit - drills a 6" diameter hole. It typically takes 2 to 3 hours to drill through 20 feet of the limestone.

Getting the hole started is a dirty business
