The Deltec Arrives !

The big day ! The arrival of our Deltec home on two 73' tractor-trailers ! All of our road work paid off - each truck made it to the top, got oriented for the turn around, then backed-in as close to the house site as possible (about 250' away). The weather was perfect - sunny, around 50 degrees (it snowed that night !). The 8 AM truck contained all of the floor and roof trusses, and some of the pre-cut plywood. It took our team of 8 people (+ 1 bobcat driver) 3 1/2 hours to unload, and send the driver, Adam, on his way. The 12 PM truck was an hour late, and contained the heaviest parts - the 34 wall panels. That was hard work for the team. Each panel weighed ~400 pounds, and had to be individually moved off the truck, placed on the forks of the bobcat, secured to the bobcat, transported to its lay-down area, unloaded from the bobcat, and secured. We finished at 6 PM, with a tired, cold crew ! But, most importantly, we did succeed in safely unloading the trucks.

First truck is ready to tackle our hill before sunrise.

A 5-point turn and the trailer is backed into unloading position.

The roof trusses.

I hope we can figure out how all this lumber goes together.

Screens for the sliding glass doors.

The crew slides a wall onto the forklift.

For walls with no windows, more than one can be moved at once.

Another wall is positioned on the forks.

The Bob Cat moves a wall to the lay-down area.

Solid wall sections are stacked as they come off the truck.

And trusses are stacked in another area. Several lay-downs were tucked in among the trees.

Walls with windows must be stacked on their sides. Racks were built on-site for this purpose.
