The long put off 2010 Deck Project
transpixel
transpixel The deck connected to the house using unprotected wood - which rotted and took the bottom two panels of siding with it. At least the protective foil kept it from getting to the plywood. 16 foot lenghs of siding will work here. I should plan on replacing the same two pieces on the unexposed areas of the deck - adding up to about 80 linear feet. Would be nice to have some extra laying around for other projects - so perhaps plan on getting 12 lengths of 16 feet or whatever the normal length is). transpixel

transpixel The beams here are 20 feet long. The distance from the house to the left edge of the deck is 17 feet. The apacing of the 4X6 beams is a little erratic - with anywhere from about 30 inch to 36 inch spacing. This could be redone to add an additional beam and get to a more code worthy 24 inch span. transpixel

transpixel For extra credt - having some kind of railing to hold onto with the new steps would be nice. transpixel

transpixel The east side of the deck showing the old railing. This was a low tech solution that kept babies from falling off the deck into the rose bushes. 2X2s were spaced a few inches apart. This is no longer a design requirement. transpixel
