August 8th - Carlsbad Caverns

Tour Carlsbad Caverns on Tuesday.
Drive to Alto, New Mexico and stay at Chez Goetz.

North on Highway 285 towards Roswell.
Before Roswell, turn left to take bypass to Highways 70/380.
Eventually, you'll get to 70/380 and make a left turn towards Ruidoso.

At around Hondo, 70 and 380 split....70 goes towards Ruidoso, but you want to take the 
right turn on Highway 380, which will take you through Lincoln (famous for Billy the Kid), 
and on to Capitan (original home of Smokey Bear).

At Capitan, which isn't very big, turn left on Highway 48.

Proceed south on 48 for about 6 miles....there are small green mile marker signs on the 
left side of the highway.  After you pass mile marker 15 (but before you get to mile 
marker 14), turn right on Canaan Trail.

Proceed ~ 1/4 mile on Canaan Trail, take the first left up a hill on Judea Court.  At the 
top of the hill, you'll pass a house on the left and a house on the right.  Neither of 
those are mine.  Keep straight, go down the hill and up the next hill which dead-ends at 
my house....large orange house with a light green roof.

August 9 - Drive from Alto, NM to Salt Lake City

Get to I25 N - I40 W - US 491 N - US 191 N - I70 W - I15N - I80W 
After six miles on I80, take 56th West offramp.  Turn right onto
Eddy Rickenbacker Road - go 0.2 miles to Amelia Earhart and turn
right.  Go 0.2 miles to Jimmy Doolittle and turn right.
