[DEMI] Protecting pre-amps

I usually leave mine on having read that same suggestion by (I think) Al 
Ward in the CSVHFS proceedings from Kansas City a few years back.  The 
reasoning was that the bias causes the threshold of damage onset to be 
raised.

I must admit that I haven't run them with switched power so how much of a 
real benefit there would be I don't know.
