Unless it is 4 days!
Kerry says that things continue to line up for the 6th - and we
should have the final word soon (perhaps today).
For the hams - I have visualized the following roles:
1. Microphone guy - this will be Rob since he filled this role
during the dry run and we want as many things to be the same
in the big event as they were in the dry run.
2. Audio guy and frequency adjustment. Make sure the audio levels
are good. Adjust the frequency as required during the QSO to adjust
for doppler shift and use of secondary frequency. These will all
be programmed into the radio and be very easy to adjust. This will
be the same person as the director if we are short on bodies.
3. ISS tracker and backup radio operator. With a 5 element beam,
you will do DFin on the ISS signal using the FM radio in my car
(powered off of the battery). You will be in visual contact the
main antenna guy - giving him visual clues as to where to point
the antenna. In the event of a power failure or major equipment
failure, you will switch the radio to the transmit frequency
and take over the job as microphone guy. An HT will be used
as the receiver.
4. Main antenna guy - responsible for pointing the antenna.
5. Main antenna guy assistant - have the information of directions
versus time for the QSO. Knows which way north is - and helps make
sure the main antenna guy has the information and feedback needed.
In the event that the secondary station is activated, you will take
over positioning the secondary antenna.
6. Director. Will make sure everyone is on task and knows what to
do. Will jump in as needed to perform any function. Will have an
HT and be monitoring the ISS frequency. This will be used as the
receiver in case the secondary station needs to be activated. The
director will act as the Audio Guy and Frequency Adjustment if we
are short handed. I will be the director.
For the non-hams, we need to make sure that the kids are kept
in a line - and help show them whree to go stand after they
ask their question. Also, if anyone freezes up and needs to
go to the end of the line, they can help with that.
Hike!!
