What a great day for a dry run - no rain!! Hopefully, we will
be as lucky on the big day.
Kerry - the mixer all worked very well. We had plenty of audio
to play with and I never heard any feedback.
The "to do" list:
1. I noticed the power output of the transmitter would dip
down for a second when using the amplifier - need to get PTT
hooked up to the amp so it isn't hot switching. I think the
hot switching was also getting into the audio system.
2. Need a small rope for the positioning of the big antenna - just
something to not forget.
3. I will bring a computer monitor - which will make it easier to
see the screen with the tracking program - or Connie? Is there one
at the school we can use? Any monitor will work - that has a 15
pin connector.
4. I will make up a nice piece of hardline to run out to the big
antenna. We used an extra 100 feet of RG8 Paul had in his truck
this time.
All in all - a big success. Lew was an awesome coach over the
air. The most bashful one was one of mine - but she got herself
together at the very end. She has talked on the radio many times
and has met Lew... oh - maybe that was the problem... :-)
We ran through our questions in about 5 minutes. Very smooth.
I am sure the answers we get back will be a little longer than
the ones Lew had, so I think we will come in just about right.
The FM stereo transmitter to the boom boxes seemed to work very
well. Actually, I think if we had better speaker placement (I
didn't expect everyone to be on the ouside of the covered area),
we can do a better job with and perhaps not need as many of
them. However, if we have to go with plan B - (with some
classes in the classroom), then they will be needed.
Connie - we threw the extension cords in the closet where the
antennas are stored - in case someone was wondering.
Many thanks again to Paul for rigging up the antenna support. Sorry
he won't be able to make it for the big day. I think there are three
other hams coming on the 6th to make up for him.
This is probably one of the most exiting things I have ever pulled
together in my 35 years of ham radio... thanks to you all for
helping pull it together.
