K7RAT Six Meter E.M.E. Page

Last update on 21 October 2002

Welcome to the Boring Amateur Radio Club's Six Meter E.M.E. page. You probably either came here because your are

1.     Interested in doing something only about 30 or 40 people have ever done.

2.     Lost.

Hopefully it is #2.

If not, then you might find some of these things interesting:

·        The 30th anniversary of the first six meter Moon bounce contact.

·        Registry of Six Meter E.M.E. capable (or soon to be) stations.

·        Description of my first E.M.E. QSO - July 1998 (first six meter EME QSO from Oregon?). Includes some sound files.

·        Six meter EME sounds - Here are some audio samples of six meter E.M.E. signals from around the world.

·        What does it take? - This page explains the minimum station requirements for six meter E.M.E.

·        Moon position table generator - This is what I use to tell where the moon will be. Gives a nice table to refer do with elevation angles.

·        First E.M.E. tests - Very neat article documenting the first US moon echoes which were heard on January 10, 1946. Includes many photos.

·        N6TR TopBand page - The other band with a 6 in it - also called a magic band. The article on TopBand disease might apply to some EME'ers.

·        BARC Homepage - Find out more about the Boring Amateur Radio Club.

·        K6QXY homepage - See the finest six meter E.M.E. array in the galaxy. That is two sections of Rohn 45G separating those two "little" towers at the ends (40 feet long). This picture doesn't prepare you for the impact of seeing this antenna in person. It is simply the most awesome amateur antenna that I have ever seen. There is another antenna at Bob's QTH which was used to make DXCC.

·        RealTrak - This program is a must have for anyone attempting six meter E.M.E. This is an ftp site with a freeware version of it. I am working to see if we can update the program for year 2000 and fix the Pentium II bug. Stay tuned.

·        EME Primer - by N1BUG. This is a great article talking about what you are working against when doing EME.

·        Z-Track - by N1BUG. Useful for determining good times to make EME skeds with specific stations.

Finally - if you want to hear more about six meter E.M.E., you can subscribe to the only mail list brave enough to dedicate itself to this topic. It is a great place to get advice on how to do it, and set up schedules with people who have actually done it. Send a subscribe message to sixeme-request@kkn.net to join the fun.
